An even better handbook experience

Keep information current with Version Control Mode

Once a document is final, you shouldn't have to choose between preventing unwanted (or accidental) changes and having an easy way for your team to suggest updates. Today, we're introducing Version Control Mode so you can ensure the integrity of your most important docs.

Enabling Version Control Mode allows document owners and editors to "lock" a doc, so that any changes requested by viewers must be made via a Suggestions Layer.

Version Control Mode makes it even simpler to track the history of a document. Every Suggestions Layer merge will create a distinct event in the Activity Feed; click into the event to view the diff of what changed with each merge.

Editors can also add a commit note when merging a Suggestions Layer, to provide even more context on the changes.

Organize docs with an inline Table of Contents

In-depth wikis and project docs should give readers a quick snapshot of the information contained within and an easy way to navigate to specific sections.

Almanac's new Table of Contents element allows you to add an automatically generated table of contents based on the existing headers in your document. The Table of Contents will update itself anytime you add a new header or change the hierarchy.

Simply click the linked text to navigate directly to that section of the doc! ✨

Improvements

  • New inline format bar — We've updated and simplified the inline format bar for text, images, and embeds. The text format bar now allows you to quickly add both lists and toggles as well as create inline code.
  • Streamlined Layers — Any active Layers on a doc are now more prominently displayed next to the main doc. We've added quick actions to merge or request feedback on a layer directly to the right of the Layer's name.
  • Simplified reading and commenting view — When collaborators are viewing a doc with read- or comment-only access, they now only see the actions they are able to take. The inline formatting bar is replaced with a single "Suggest Changes" button. Those with comment access will also see a "Comment" button.
  • More flexible numbered lists — Numbered lists can now start at any number, so you can add line breaks and content between items.
